Macau Casinos, Wellness Bureau Try to Find Common Ground on Smoking Lounge Issues

Macau’s Health Bureau wants to lessen the harmful effects of cigarette smoke on patrons and employees inside gambling enterprises, and the agency’s general public crusade isn’t a lot of smoke and mirrors.

Gambling enterprises in Macau are smoke-free, but resorts want to keep VIP rooms lit and retain interior smoking lounges for patrons.

The Special Administrative Region for the People’s Republic of China is working alongside the city’s six casino that is major to figure out the most useful laws regarding smoking lounges. Since 2013, cigarette smoking has been banned inside casinos, except in designated areas and VIP that is special.

Casinos want to keep it that way, but the Health Bureau is expected to suggest to the government that VIP smoking cigarettes spaces be banned, too.

Macau outlawed smoking at all indoor public places in July of 2015, but as gaming revenue disappeared due to China’s crackdown on VIP junket operators, the city happens to be reducing its smoking cigarettes stance for casinos.

The wellness Bureau is working directly with Galaxy Entertainment, Melco Crown, MGM China, Sands China, SJM Holdings, and Wynn Macau in finding common ground to better protect patrons and employees from harmful smoke, whilst also giving gamblers who want to light up a space to do this without exiting the property.
